Back to Bhubaneswar
Joaquin Menini finds himself once again in Bhubaneswar, India for the 2018 Mens Field Hockey World Cup. Just four years ago he was playing in Bhubaneswar and now his Uru Experience has come full-circle as he returns for the World Cup. And in the past four years hockey has taken him on one hell of an adventure.
After playing the 2014 World Cup, he went to Madrid to play for Club de Campo in Madrid for two seasons. Then on with the Argentinian National Team at different times throughout the year, which allowed him to start really traveling the world – playing in Australia, India, North America, and Europe.
For him the pinnacle was undoubtedly.. “was in 2016 in Rio when we won the Olympic Gold for Argentina.”
Following the Olympics, he moved to The Hague, Netherlands, to play one season for HGC. He then switched to his current team, HC Den Bosc. He also had an opportunity to play for the Terengganu Hockey Team in Malaysia. And now finds himself at the hockey world cup Bhubaneswar, India (2018), the penultimate tournament kicking off this week.
On the experience of playing abroad:
From Menini, “Try new destinations – you can’t imagine what’s waiting for you and what you are losing if you don’t take advantage of the opportunity to play overseas.
When you go overseas, not only do you get different style of hockey, but you are also are exposed to new cultures, make new friends, and have a completely new life! If you set it up correctly, it’s an incredible experience so let the Urū team help you do so!”
Understanding his privilege and what other players can do:
“As an international player, I had the chance to play in a lots of countries, and meet people who helped connect me with teams to play for overseas.
For those without the connections, I know it’s not so easy. But Urū Sports allows players to make the connections they need to have doors opened so they can experience the world through hockey.”
Thanks for the kind words, all the connections, knowledge, and faith Joaquin Menini. And good luck at the World Cup – We’ll be cheering!!
