Hockey Journey/Summary:

The first time I played hockey, I was filling in for my brothers team on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. I scored a goal in my first goal and thought to myself “well this sport is easy!” Unfortunately that was probably the last goal I scored… When I went to University, I joined the University of Queensland hockey side in Brisbane (commonly referred to as the Unicorns) where I played for 6 years while I trained as part of the Queensland Academy of sport. I moved to Perth to train with the Development Squad and ended up making the Australian National team. It was a great experience and honor. When I moved to the West Coast, I was also adopted into the North Coast Raiders hockey family, where I currently play and coach.

Why you’re excited/passionate about Uru:

While playing for the Hockeyroos and Junior Australian Teams we toured Europe, China, New Zealand, Japan and India. Every country has their own hockey identity and its always so much fun travelling and meeting people from other countries. Having hockey in common is a great starting point and having the opportunity to see the world while getting to play hockey is such a cool experience.

Advice you give to the hockey community:

Players thinking about playing abroad/coaches looking to recruit, if you are looking to play abroad, do your research, don’t be afraid to ask heaps of questions because it’s important to find a club that’s a good fit for you. If you are looking to recruit players, make sure you are on the ball with communication and know what your team is looking for and what you have to offer- then its a win/win for everyone!
